ABOUT MY JOURNEY

Who knew back then ?

That one day, I will make the journey to this side of the ocean. The American side. That I would land in New York City at the age of 20, with few dollars in my pocket and not speaking or writing a word of the English language. That I would live my American dream and grow old to write about it. I did not know.

That one day I would lose my father at a very young age and witness how my mother raised six (6) children on her own. I did not know.

That one day I would attend a Jesuit school in Morocco and begin to travel to faraway places. That one day I would receive a bachelor’s degree, a masters and a doctorate from an American college and a university run by Jesuits. I did not know.

That one day I will get married to a brunette from Brooklyn and move to California to live for almost two decades before moving to Connecticut and Georgia. That one day, my wife and I will raise 2 beautiful and caring daughters. That our daughters would marry (two handsome and caring gentlemen) and give us grandchildren to love and cherish. That one day I would be grandpa MO at the age of 72. I did not know.

That one day I will be torn but blessed to belong to two countries. Torn between two religions but blessed to know and respect many religions. I did not know.

That one day I would discover my purpose in life at a later age, live my calling with passion, write about my experiences and the lessons I learned. That I will leave a legacy that I wanted to leave behind when my time is up. I did not know. My mother and my siblings did not know.

God knew. I believe that God knew it all back then. That God knowns what is going on now and what will be going on tomorrow.
